The Lakes Region has a very strong tradition of community support for the arts, especially music. With many community bands, concert bands, commercial groups and a symphony orchestra, this tradition relects the idea that music is something you DO, not something you BUY.
With a strong base of talented musicians and many opportunities to perform, its suprising that the Lakes Region didn't have a big band. Among the local musicians, the question was not "should the Lakes Region have a big band", but "why doesn't the Lakes Region have a big band?"
With an abundance of talented musicians with a burning desire to play big band music, all it took was was someone to say "why don't we....." and the Lakes Region Big Band was born.
With a
repertoire ranging from the swinging standards from Glen Miller andTommy Dorsey to the hard driving styles of Basie and Buddy Rich, to contemporary charts by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, the Lakes Region Big Band truely embraces everything you'd expect from a big band.
